Quartz Repair Singapore

The Tough Cookie

Over the years, quartz is slowly gaining its status in the competitive world of floorings and table tops and there is a very solid reason for it. Quartz is a mineral which can be found in abundance in all parts of the world and can be formed under any temperature. Having a hardness of 7 on Mohs Scale, quartz is very durable, positioning itself as a very useful material in many fields.

Today, aside from marble and granite, more and more homeowners are opting for quartz countertops and floorings. Many hotels are following this footstep as well. Not only that it is more economical, it is also extremely durable, pretty looking and you can still tell people that you have a stone vanity top or stone table top. Easy maintenance and aesthetic. Isn’t that killing two birds with one stone?

However, when made into floorings and table tops and etcetera, they do not use 100% quartz. Only 90% will be quartz, and the rest, to name a few, polymer binders and resins, resulting in a non porous surface which makes it ideal for areas which are exposed to high humidity and moisture. Having no pores, bacteria would not be able breed on it, making it a more hygienic choice for countertops.

Almost, Not Zero

But no matter how durable quartz is and almost zero maintenance is needed, there are still certain aspects to pay attention to when caring for quartz if you want it to last for a very long time.

Being non porous, quartz is very stain resistant. It resist etches far better than granite and marble. But it is still advisable to wipe away spills as quickly as possible. Being mixed with other components,
quartz does not deal very well with harsh chemicals because the chemicals will break the bond between the polymer binder and make it very fragile.

Aside from chemicals, quartz also cannot withstand extreme heat. Thus, avoid placing hot pots and
pans directly on top of the quartz countertop.

Quartz maybe very durable, do avoid directly dicing your onions or chopping your meat on the countertop cause it will leave scratches. Use a chopping board instead.

Fixing Chips

Quartz generally does not require resealing. The factory finish should last a long time. If by any chance there is a chipping, you can still save it. So what can you do.

First, get some glue, the fast acting ones, a pair of gloves, a razor blade, an ammonia based cleaner, a piece of clean cloth and some newspaper to cover the floors cause it will be messy once you start working.

Wipe your countertop using the ammonia cleaner. This is to eliminate any dirt before you start applying glue on the affected area. Cleaning helps you identify other damage which you might have overlooked too.

After that, take a brush and apply glue either on the chip or om the chipped area and put the chip back to where it is supposed to be. Allow it to dry for at least one or two days.

When it is finally dried, grab a razor blade at 45 degree to the affected area to scrape off the excess glue. Repeat this until the surface is levelled. If the chip happened to be on the side. Use a sandpaper instead.

Last step would be to take a damp cloth to clean off any remaining glue which had been scrapped off.

Always Ready For You

It is easy to perform such repair if it is only a small chip. For damages worse than that, please refer to a professional. StoneXpert provides various stone repair services. We are easily reachable through emails and calls.
