There are actually many ways to add value to your properties. You can convert extra space, such as lofts to bedrooms. If that is too much of a hassle and is taking up too much of your budget, simple renovations in the kitchen and bathroom work too. Do you know that by just repainting your house, you can already increase the value of the house by 5% to 10%. You can give it a fresh coat of paint to cover those outdated colors with plain minimalistic ones such as white or better still, change the floorings and countertops, not just any material, but hardwood or stone. These two materials are a hit among homeowners because they are not only durable but also aesthetically pleasing.

Win-Win

Stones such as marble and granite and especially preferred when you are looking at giving that luxurious accent to places like houses, offices and hotels. They are widely used for both outdoors and indoors. But in recent years, its cousin, Quartz is slowly gaining popularity too, reason being that this engineered stone has proved itself to be more durable and requires very low maintenance as compared to the other two. Quartz on its own is very hard stone and is scaled seven on the Mohs Scale of hardness. When mixed with resin, polymer binder and some other materials in the making of floorings and countertops, its structure is strengthened, and with that layer of factory sealing, quartz is scratch and stain resistant. On top of this, its beauty is compatible to marble and granite too, isn’t that whole package too hard to resist?

Still Needs Love

As mentioned above, quartz required minimal maintenance, which is ideal for areas with high traffic, but keep it out of sunlight as it will decolorize. Because it is engineered, it is non-porous, making it stain resistant and preventing bacteria from harboring. Hygienic working space, nice. The factory sealant is also very durable, so you can rub dirt away with ease, but still avoid abrasive materials at all costs, because it is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Abrasive will leave streaks which will then make the surface appear to be dull.

For day to day cleaning, a mixture of water and mild soap would do the work. Soak the entire area with the mixture and let it soak for about 15 minutes before wiping it dry. Make sure to wipe it dry because since it does not absorb moisture, it may leave water marks which will dull the surface. For floors, use a mop with mild detergent.

Saving Cracks

Quartz’s durability is non-questionable, but accidents are bound to happen and you might be that one in a million person to receive a faulty quartz and overtime, quartz do loses its shine too. The usual damage to quartz which you might encounter are chips and cracks. This can be caused by high force, so you might want to really think twice before slamming that pot on your quartz countertop or letting go of that sofa a little far from the ground when you lifted it to get that biscuit which has rolled underneath. But most of the time, cracks are usually caused during the installation.

To let your quartz regain its shine, simply deep clean with quartz approved glass cleaner. It is very useful because the glass cleaner itself is a degreaser and will wipe away all the oil which is splattered on the surface. Well it is a kitchen, oil everywhere! Wipe it down with a microfiber cloth and you should get your shine back in no time. To fix a chip, you may use super glue to stick the chip back to where it belongs. Clean the countertop first, glue the chip, let it rest for at least 48 hours to ensure that the glue has set, wait for it to dry, and then use a sharp razor blade to get rid of the excess glue. It can be a little trickier for cracks. For light cracks, you can use the glue too, just make sure the glue is spread until it is in excess, so you can scrap it off later to ensure a smooth surface. For deep cracks, the best method would be to use clear resin, acrylic adhesive and epoxy.
